How do I send one Email message to multiple contacts in my address book?

by Diane Fisheron 2010-08-01T01:50:29+00:00
Since I'm visually impaired and use a screen reader, I don't use the
mouse for dragging and dropping, so is there another way that I can
add multiple addresses from my address book to my messages?

Hi Diane,
You will probably need some help with this.
Ask someone to put all your email addresses in
the Address Book (top left side of main TBird page.)
They should then appear in the Contacts (top left
side of the email you are writing). You click on
Contacts and a list of emails should drop down.
By clicking on email addresses there they should pop
into the To: list at the top of the page.
You can also send blind copies by clicking the To:
and a small window will open allowing you to click
the Bcc. - blind copy.
Good luck :-)

Have you considered grouping your contacts in lists? It could be useful
if you regularly send e-mails to the same sets of people.

reason including emailing).
If I were going to email multiple people, I would configure to show my
contacts in the left pane and click them into the appropriate field, To
or BCC.
You didn't say which v. of Tbird you use, and your GG googlegroups
headers don't show me whether you are 2.x or 3.x. In my linux 2.0.0.24,
when I am editing an email I click the Contacts icon in the toolbar to
create a left pane with addresses.
In my Win 3.1, when I am editing an email the Contacts pane is open by
default, or if it isn't I can F9 to toggle it or alternatively use the
View menu to show it.
In neither case would I be drag-dropping anything.

this add-on may do what you want;
Select Address Book Text 1.3.2
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/7065/
tho i would not guarantee it.
you do not mention if you use mouse at all, so i will presume that you
do not.
therefore;
while in thunderbird window, pressing control key and number 2 key
simultaneously will open your address book in a new window and your
'Personal Address Book' will be shown with first entry highlighted.
if you have more than one list of address book in you address book, press
shift key and tab key simultaneously to highlight address books and press
up down arrow keys to highlight address book you want. press tab key to
highlight first addressee name.
pressing down arrow key will move highlight down thru list of names.
when you have desired first addressee highlighted, pressing control key
and m key simultaneously will open email compose window with addressee's
name in first to entry bar and cursor in 'Subject:' entry bar.
to add a new addressee, hold down shift key and press tab key. cursor will
move back to current addressee entry with name highlighted.
pressing end key will move cursor to end of addressee name. pressing enter
key will open another 'To:' entry bar.
pressing alt and tab key simultaneously will reactivate address book and
previously highlighted name will be highlighted.
pressing up or down arrow keys will move highlight up or down thru list of
names. when you have desired name, pressing enter key will open contact card
with 'Name' 'First:' highlighted. pressing tab key will move down thru
entries in card highlighting each.
while entry is highlighted, you can press control key and c key
simultaneously to copy entry.
pressing alt key and tab key simultaneously will activate back to compose
window in second 'To:' entry bar.
pressing control key and v key simultaneously will paste into entry bar.
if you are entering full name and address in 'To:' entry bar, you will have
to use alt key and tab key combination to move back and forth between two
windows copying and pasting to compose window, remembering to press space
bar in between names.
add i space, then press shift key and comma key simultaneously to add left
point arrow bracket.
alt key and tab key simultaneously again to contact card and tab down to
highlight 'Email:' address entry. press control key and c key to copy. press
alt key and tab key to reactivate compose window. press control key and v
key to paste email address. press shift and period key to close with right
pointing arrow bracket.
continue until you have all addressees entered.
you could save a lot if you just copy email address to 'To:' entry bar. that
is up to you.
press alt key and tab key once simultaneously once more to return to contact
card window, press esc key to close window and return to address book. press
press control key and w key simultaneously to close address book and return
to compose window.
press tab key to enter 'Subject:' bar, enter subject line. press tab key to
enter email body area and type message.
press control, shift and enter keys simultaneously to sent email later.
press control and enter keys simultaneously to sent email immediately.
i hope this helps.

As PeeGee advized, putting up lists would be very handy if you address the
same group of people regularly.
If your addresses are in your addressbook, just start typing away in the To
(or Cc od Bcc) header of the new mail. TB will automatically show you the
addresses it already has in the Addressbood. Select the one you need by
pressing Arrow-Down or Up and press Enter.
